Not every country has developed an institutional environment that can meet the needs of disabled people. As a result, local organisations have taken on the challenge to provide adequate care for the disabled and ensure they can enjoy a high quality of life.
Our local partners are pioneers in the field of disability support. But they often struggle to recruit staff that have been trained in the latest techniques and methods within their fields. Especially in countries like India, it is common for highly qualified staff in the health and disability sector to leave the country and take advantage of higher paid opportunities overseas. Our partner organisations are therefore looking for qualified and skilled volunteers to share their skills and collaborate with their local staff.
Volunteers from the fields of osteopathy, occupational therapy and speech therapy can make a great impact by sharing their skills. It is a great opportunity for sharing and learning with parents and staff. Whether you are a student looking to volunteer abroad during your elective or, a highly qualified and experienced expert in your field – or anything in between – your skills and knowledge can make a significant contribution to local organisations trying to improve disability support in their country.
All volunteers involved in our placements working with disabled people must adhere to Skilled Impact’s Working with the Disabled Policy.
